Country music icon Martina McBride sang her classic song "Independence Day" at the 50th Annual ACM Awards in Arlington, Texas on Sunday night (April 19).

McBride wore a gorgeous black dress as she crooned her well-known song. The dress featured a built-in sheer black shawl and she paired the dress with high heels and silver jewelry. The talented songstress radiated confidence and joy as she sang.

The performance was the perfect throwback classic in the midst of several new singles from newer country music stars. The camera panned across the audience as country stars such as Taylor Swift sang along with McBride's classic hit.

And of course, McBride is no stranger to the ACM Awards. She was first nominated for an award in 1993, when she was up for New Female Vocalist of the Year. Throughout the past two decades, McBride has established herself as one of the most commercially successful female stars.

"The pace has changed," McBride says while chatting with the Boot about how the ACMs have changed. "I feel like there's a lot more music that we put in, which is great for the fans."
