Megan Moroney is hot off the release of her sophomore album Am I Okay?, which arrived on July 12. Of the 14 songs, one title sticks out — "Heaven By Noon." The country singer recently revealed to Today's Country host Kelleigh Bannen that the song was written about her uncle, who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

"The song is inspired — a lot of people don't know this, but my uncle died on 9/11," she explains. "So, I kind of thought about my aunt when I was writing that song."

"The last thing they talked about was an oil change," she continues. "And so, that's probably not what what she would have wanted to say to him if she knew it was gonna be the last time."

"It's definitely a heart-wrenching song."

Born on Oct. 9, 1997, Moroney would have been just shy of four years old when the events of 9/11 happened. Her song transcends that one day and encompasses all unexpected tragedies in life and the grief we carry with us.

Megan Moroney's "Heaven By Noon" Lyrics

Verse 1:

Did you know how much I loved you? / Did I tell you enough? / I've been cryin' since I got the call / Been beatin' myself up / I'm angry at the sky / None of this feels right / Only God knows why / I wish I knew tonight

Chorus:

I know where you're at / And there ain't no time at all / No heartbreak / No more pain / Just streets of gold you get to walk / When I talked to you this mornin' / I said, "I'll see you soon" / Would have said so much more if I only knew / That you'd be in Heaven by noon

Verse 2:

How's the world still turnin'? / And why do stars still shine? / The strength to get up off this floor / I can't seem to find / I'm angry at the sky / And none of this feels right / Only God knows why / But I miss you tonight

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:

You got wings / In no time / And I wish we had more time / But it was your time / So until I get there too

Repeat Chorus
