Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry + More Satisfy at 2013 Taste of Country Festival – Day 2 Pictures
Day 2 of the Taste of Country Music Festival brought some sunshine and a few of the rowdiest bands in country music out to play. Beginning with newcomer Rachel Farley -- who more than held her own -- the six acts to take the stage in Hunter, N.Y. shook the valley of the venue located in the Catskills Mountains on Friday (June 14).
Farley was first. The 18-year-old performed a mix of covers and originals from her upcoming album before giving way to Blackberry Smoke. The country-tinged Southern rockers proved to be amongst the sharpest bands of the day. Over 250 days on the road each year will make for a tight sound, and that's what fans heard.
Craig Campbell came next after an electric storm threatened fans, causing a brief delay. Campbell's set included his hits songs like 'Family Man' and current Top 40 single 'Outta My Head,' in addition to 'Topless,' a song he wrote with his wife Mindy. He began to unbutton his own shirt during the fun summertime jam, but kept his clothes mostly on in the end.
Justin Moore joined Campbell on stage before playing his own hour-long, high energy set. With seven Top 20 hits, there was no shortage of familiar material for fans to sing along to. The 'Point at You' singer has a new swagger these days, and plays with more attitude than ever before. It makes for a great stage show.
Montgomery Gentry and Trace Adkins showed fans why they were tapped to close the show. The duo gave hit after hit, reaching back to the late '90s and early '00s for singles to fill their 90-minute set. Finally, Adkins took the stage, mixing his rowdy rockers like 'Swing' and 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' with deeply personal performances of love songs 'This Ain't No Love Song' and 'Every Light in the House is On.' In between, he shared a few offbeat covers that lean toward the vintage sound he aims for on his new 'Love Will ...' album.
Saturday's lineup at the 2013 Taste of Country Music Festival begins with Dustin Lynch and includes sets from Hunter Hayes, Billy Currington and Lady Antebellum.
