Rodney Atkins remains at the top this week, as his latest release, 'Take a Back Road,' locks in the No. 1 position for the second straight week on the country singles chart. The song marks the sixth time in his career that Atkins has claimed that spot. Previous No. 1 hits for Atkins include 'If You're Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows),' 'Watching You,' 'These Are My People,' 'Cleaning This Gun (Come On in Boy)' and 'It's America.'

'Take a Back Road' was the first song penned by songwriters Rhett Akins and Luke Laird. The new chart-topper marks the seventh trip to the top for both Akins and Laird. 'Take a Back Road' is the first cut by Atkins for Laird. However, Atkins has been a big fan of Akins' writing for years, as he recorded previous songs penned by the Georgia native: 'Friends With Tractors' (written with fellow Peach Pickers Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip) and his recent Top 5 hit 'Farmer's Daughter' (written with Marv Green).

'Take a Back Road' is the lead single from Atkins' forthcoming album of the same name, which is set to hit stores on October 4.
