The Swon Brothers Offer Fun Set at 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival
The Swon Brothers know how to win over a crowd — just ask those gathered for their set at the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival on Saturday afternoon (June 11). Brothers Colton and Zach Swon are like yin and yang onstage, but together, they create a perfect pair.
Early in their set, the Swons treated the fans at Hunter Mountain in Hunter, N.Y., to some material from their Timeless EP: "Throwback," "Just Another Girl," "Nobody" and "Killing Me" all came quickly, with covers of Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You" and Merle Haggard's "Workin' Man Blues" interspersed. Colton Swon took lead vocals on the former song, while the brothers' Haggard cover accentuated the songs uptempo, blues-y melody. They used "Workin' Man Blues" to jam out a little bit, and introduce their skilled band.
A cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" allowed Zach Swon to show off his strong voice; bathed in yellow light, he took on the classic tune with ease. His vocals were also a perfect match for a cover of Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody." Colton Swon, meanwhile, worked the stage and had plenty of fun with the audience: He led call-and-response singalongs, ran all over the stage and, before closing their set with "Later On," ventured into the crowd to hand out some swag to, take selfies with and high-five fans.
William Michael Morgan and Old Dominion preceded the Swon Brothers onstage. Eric Paslay, Frankie Ballard and Kenny Chesney also were slated to perform on Day 2 of the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival.
