Thomas Rhett's sentimental ballad "Die a Happy Man" has earned many accolades since its release last fall, and now Rhett will be adding a Billboard Music Award to the list.

Rhett took home the award for Top Country Song at the ceremony Sunday night (May 22), where he accepted the award from Miss America Betty Cantrell and Shark Tank’s Mark Cuban. Rhett was gracious in his speech, seeming truly thrilled to receive the honor.

“Oh man, thank you guys so much. This is incredible. I gotta thank God. I gotta thank my lovely wife, sitting right here,” Rhett told the crowd. “Never in a million years did I think that being a songwriter sitting on a bus writing a song about who we love would win an award like this. Thank you Billboards, country radio, everyone on my team. We love you very much. Cheers!”

"Die a Happy Man" was the second single from Rhett’s album Tangled Up, written about his wife, Lauren, whom he’s known since the first grade. The song hit No. 1 on both the Billboard Country Airplay chart and the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It also nabbed the Song of the Year award at the American Country Countdown Awards and Single of the Year at the 2016 ACMs, where he also performed the tune.

Rhett is currently touring with Jason Aldean on his Six String Circus Tour, which he says he’s having a blast doing, especially now that he’s built an even bigger fanbase.

“It’s been incredible. I toured with Jason three years ago, but to be back in this environment is a whole lot different, gettin’ to play the middle slot,” he tells his record label, Big Machine Label Group. “Obviously having one hit and havin’ five that you can play that you know the crowd knows is a whole lot different energy. People show up and the place is packed by the time we go on stage, so it really is just special to get out there.”

The Six String Circus Tour continues through the first of October.
