Trace Adkins has landed himself another acting role. The country singer has a small part in the forthcoming film Deepwater Horizon, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson. In a chat with ToC Nights, the singer dished his thoughts on the movie, and acting in general.

Deepwater Horizon is based on true events, the story of the oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. The explosion created the worst oil spill in our history. Some big names have stepped up to help tell the story, including Adkins, even if he's only on the screen momentarily.

“I just did one scene in it, you know. It was ... I don’t know if it was a cameo, or what you would call it,” he explains, adding that his agent is the one who helps him score these roles. “I do have an agent out in L.A. and she’s great, CAA, but when those opportunities come along if my schedule permits I go do them because it’s fun. I get a kick out of it, it’s a lot of fun.”

Adkins' character remains a bit of a mystery, but the singer says he's based on an actual person. “I don’t even think they gave him a name. I know he was a real person, it’s his documentary, and this scene that we did it was an actual event," he explains. "It actually happened and we shot it in the hotel lobby where it actually took place so yeah he was a real guy, I just don’t know what his name was.”

Deepwater Horizon is slated for release in September of 2016 and Adkins also hopes his new album, featuring the single "Jesus and Jones," will also be out later this year. It's his first on Wheelhouse Records.
