Lee Brice, Chase Rice and Toby Keith are a few of today’s top singers who played college or semi-pro football before becoming country stars, but there is only one who had an all-pro NFL career before dropping his pads for a guitar and a pen. Do you remember which NFL star is responsible for 12 No. 1 hits?

In addition to his “hits” as a defensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals (49 career sacks between 1970 and 1974), Mike Reid helped write or co-wrote songs like ‘Everywhere’ for Tim McGraw; ‘In This Life’ for Collin Raye; and ‘Forever’s As Far as I’ll Go’ for Alabama. He also scored his own chart-topper with ‘Walk on Faith’ in 1991.

The former all-pro player remains active; he helped write two tracks on Jennifer Nettles' recent album ‘That Girl.’ In 2005, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. According to his website, his latest album was ‘New Direction Home,' released in 2012.
