Chris Stapleton, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson Salute John Lennon [Watch]
The country genre was well represented at John Lennon's 75th Birthday Concert, held earlier this month at New York's Madison Square Garden. On Dec. 5, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Chris Stapleton took the stage together for a joint performance of The Beatles' "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away."
Kevin Bacon introduced the three singers to the famed stage for their nearly four-minute performance. All dressed in black, Kristofferson, Stapleton and Nelson walked to the three mic stands, with Stapelton kicking off the song. Kristofferson and Nelson chimed in on harmonies for the chorus, but it was Stapleton who carried the classic.
The live concert, titled Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert, will air on AMC on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 9PM. Additional performers include Aloe Blacc, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Brandon Flowers, Peter Frampton, Juanes, Pat Monahan, Tom Morello, the Roots and Steven Tyler.
“It’s beautiful to see so many wonderful and talented musicians come together for this special show to celebrate John’s birthday,” Yoko Ono says in a press release announcing the concert last month. “John’s art continues to give hope, light and happiness to generations of people everywhere. His belief that each of us can change the world continues to inspire the human race to believe in themselves, and his influence is everlasting in everyone’s hearts as we all share in the possibilities and power of music."
