Addison Agen’s Tearful ‘Humble and Kind’ Is ‘The Voice’ Performance Everyone Is Talking About
Addison Agen started Monday night's two-night The Voice finale with a Tim McGraw song and ended in tears. The 16-year-old is one of four finalists vying to become the Season 13 winner.
Agen performed "Humble and Kind" over little more than an acoustic guitar through the first verse before a full band accompanied her dynamic performance. Melodically she stayed true to McGraw's hit song, but she was more adventurous vocally, especially as she closed the second verse and started the chorus once again.
At the very end — where McGraw would deliver the raw final lines of his Grammy winning song — the Indiana native loses control of her emotions. Instead of notes, tears fall. She tries twice to finish, but only manages a small squeak.
"You amaze me," coach Adam Levine told her after. "And every single time you get up there, you make me proud and you blow me away."
The coaches didn't seem bothered by her emotional ending, instead praising the performance. It was one of four for Agen, who joins Brooke Simpson, Red Marlow and Chloe Kohanski as finalists. Marlow and Kohanski are members of Blake Shelton's team.
The next winner of The Voice will be announced on Tuesday night (Dec. 19). Each of the four finalists will perform with an idol, with guests including Sia, Billy Idol, Norah Jones and Vince Gill.
