Billy Currington is well known for his love of the tropical beach lifestyle, and so it comes as no surprise that the singer wanted to do something to help out the people in the Bahamas, who are currently reeling after devastating damage from Hurricane Dorian.

Currington decided to do what he does best, and help out with a benefit show Saturday night (Sept. 14) in Key West, Fla. with proceeds going to help the island of Green Turtle Cay, which Currington had become familiar with during the shoot for his video "People Are Crazy."

He announced the show just a few days beforehand on Instagram, explaining his hopes for the benefit. "After seeing the impact Hurricane Dorian had on the Bahamas, I feel we gotta do something," he explained. "I saw that my friend Paul Menta is heading up fundraising efforts with Key West Cares and putting on a show at the Key West Theatre. I want to be a part of what they’re doing so headed down to play a few songs at the theater this Saturday night."

Currington added that he hoped he could help raise even more money at a full-band afterparty at Sunset Pier (click above to see a bit of the charmingly free-spirited performance a fan posted following the show) and directed fans to local organization Key West Cares for more donation options and news.

Dorian extracted a chilling death toll of 50 in the Bahamas, with 1,300 people missing. Officials note that this total will likely rise as cleanup and relief efforts continue.
