Brantley Gilbert Has a Christmas Problem Every Parent Knows Well
You can see the frustration on Brantley Gilbert's face as he talks about a Christmas problem every parent (especially every new parent) knows well.
The "What Happens In a Small Town" singer is looking forward to watching 1-year-old Barrett open Christmas gifts this year, but he longs for a time when not having much forced you to appreciate what you did have.
"My dad and my mom ... her mom ... everybody gives him so many gifts, I'm like trying to dispose of 'em without anybody knowing," Gilbert tells Taste of Country. "The Salvation Army, they know me well."
This is Gilbert and his wife, Amber's, second Christmas together as parents. Barrett was born in November 2017, and they would love to have more children. As for what they're planning to gift their baby boy this year? Gilbert wouldn't say, because Amber had pressed the importance of secret keeping on him. One hopes the presents won't get lost in the madness.
"The house is just slap full of toys. I always say I think he's got too many," Gilbert says. "And he loves to play. He could play all day."
Gilbert assures that being a new father will affect songs on his next studio album, but for now, all fans have heard is "What Happens in a Small Town," a heartbreak song featuring Lindsay Ell on vocals and guitar. Previously the country-rocker told Taste of Country how the new song is based on the early days of his relationship with Amber, and that Ell was his first choice for a duet partner.
"She sings extremely well, she writes and she slays," he says. "So it was kind of an easy choice there because we knew she'd kill it."
Expect his new album to be available in 2019.
