Brantley Gilbert and his wife are expecting a baby girl, and the prospect must be daunting for the tough-guy country singer. He's said in the past that the thought of having a daughter terrified him.

In an in-depth interview with Taste of Country in 2017, Gilbert admitted, "I am mortified of having a little girl."

"You hear people say that have daughters, 'Oh, I'll go to jail,'" the "What Happens in a Small Town" singer said. "But no, I really will — I'll go to prison. If a dude comes up my driveway that looks, talks, acts anything like me I'm going to stab him as many times as humanly possible."

Brantley and his wife, Amber, welcomed their first child, a son named Barrett, in 2017. The couple announced they are expecting their second child on Tuesday (March 26), and Amber tells People that Gilbert was especially emotional over the news.

“My mom was crying, and I had tears in my eyes. But Brantley? He was just crying,” she says.

"I was so sure it was a boy. I wasn’t ready for it to be a little girl — and man, when it was!" Gilbert shares. "I just wanted a healthy, happy baby, but a little girl means a whole other deal.”

Despite his imposing demeanor, Gilbert is very sentimental, and he says he knows what kind of dad he'll be to his little girl.

"I already know she’s gonna own me, and that’s okay," Gilbert tells People. "There is nothing like [fatherhood]. And as great as you think it’s going to be, it doesn’t come close to how it really is. To think it’s happening again is wild.”
