Bruce Robison Cancels Shows, Hospitalized With Typhus
Singer-songwriter Bruce Robison has canceled upcoming shows due to a bout with typhus that has landed him in the hospital.
Robison's sister, singer-songwriter Robyn Ludwick, posted to Facebook on Saturday (May 27) to reveal that he had been hospitalized for five days and was "still very sick in the hospital and slowly improving from typhus, which has caused pretty severe complications to his liver, kidneys and immune system."
According to Healthline.com, there are three different types of typhus, and the disease most commonly occurs in poor areas of the world where there is not proper access to sanitation. It can also derive from being bitten by fleas, mites, lice, chiggers and ticks. Symptoms can include cough, rash, high fever, chills, muscle pain and confusion. It lasts from 10-14 days and can lead to serious complications or even death.
The Americana artist's team announced Robison's canceled shows — which were set for June 1 and June 2 — on Tuesday (May 30) via Facebook, writing, "Due to Bruce’s recent hospitalization, we regretfully must cancel Thursday’s show at Sam's Burger Joint Music Hall in San Antonio as well as Friday’s show at the Globe Theatre TX in Bertram. Bruce is resting up and we are working diligently to reschedule the shows as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and understanding."
Posts from May 17 and 18 indicate that Robison also postponed previous gigs in Amarillo, Texas on May 18, Lubbock, Texas on May 19 and Alpine, Texas on May 20, believing that he had the flu. Robison’s management team shared on Facebook that the singer had come down with pneumonia on May 23, at which time Robison canceled two more shows.
Robison's official touring schedule shows his next scheduled concert on Saturday (June 3) in La Grange, Texas. In a tweet on May 27, his team assured they will update fans on rescheduled dates for the shows as more information becomes available, saying, "Thanks for the well wishes and positive vibes. Bruce is improving but still has a ways to go."
Robison released his most recent album, Bruce Robison & the Back Porch Band, on April 28.
