Chris Lane Aiming to Follow George Strait’s Career Path

Country newcomer Chris Lane is looking to the right people as he builds his career. The "Broken Windshield View" singer sat down with us for a Periscope interview on Tuesday morning, during which he shared his influences, girlfriend situation and favorite foods.

Lane is currently part of the Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star contest. If he's chosen as the winner, he'll open the 2015 iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. Right now he's just trying to stay in the Top 5 so he moves on to the next round of voting. Fans can vote by sending a tweet with his name and #RisingStar in it or at the contest website.

Periscope is Twitter's live broadcast app. When activated, followers can watch a live feed of ... anything. The North Carolina singer sat down knowing fans can ask anything, and they did. One viewer wanted to know if Lane is single (he is), while another asked what he likes to cook (Italian food).

One fan was pretty certain Lane likes lasagna, which was momentarily confusing.

Lane's career began with a publishing deal, and then he became friends with Florida Georgia Line and hooked up to their 2014 tour with rapper Nelly. He's still an independent artist, but that may change when fans and labels hear his new single. We can't say anything about it, but it sounds really, really good while sitting in the back of a pickup truck.

Over at the Macy's contest webpage, fans can listen to a song called "Her Own Kind of Beautiful." While progressive, it's a step in from some of the edgy sounds on the radio today. Lane says he's still working on his debut project, produced by Joey Moi of FGL fame.
