Chris Young Remembers Friend Who Died in Emotional ‘Drowning’ Video
Chris Young's "Drowning" video bears a special message for anyone who has lost someone close to them.
The country singer makes his directorial debut with the release of the clip, which premiered on YouTube on Tuesday (Sept. 24). The video opens with Young holding up a photo of his friend, Adam Carnes, whose death inspired the new single. Young co-directed the video along with Native 31 Films producer and director Jeff Johnson.
"I gotta say / Missing you comes in waves / And tonight I'm drowning," Young sings in the song, which is the second single from his most recent album, Raised on Country.
“I’ve been so amazed at the reaction to this song,” Young says in a press release. “I wrote it with two friends as a moment of healing and had no idea it would touch so many people before it was even chosen as a single. The video, combining so many personal moments alongside a live performance, totally embodies that and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
Young co-wrote "Drowning" with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, and he told Taste of Country in July that his fans have been reacting to the song in a very special way.
“So many people have their own stories,” Young states. “People are walking up to me at meet-and-greets saying ‘I just want you to know I lost my brother, and this song makes me think of them.’ I mean, that’s something special.”
