Danielle Bradbery’s Visits to St. Jude Give Her New Perspective
Danielle Bradbery recently visited St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for the second time — she says it keeps things in perspective.
She meets with young patients who are suffering from cancer or other rare diseases, but she's always struck by how happy each child is despite their challenges. Bradbery hopes their positive outlook on things carries over into her own life.
"The first time, I took a huge part out of meeting the kids," she explains. "Every time I come back [and] I meet the kids, they're all laughing and having a good time, all these personalities. I'm like, 'Maybe I shouldn't have complained or thought about having a bad day.' You really think about all that stuff again. You're like, 'Okay, we don't really have bad days.'"
"They show that you can be happy no matter what," she adds.
Bradbery makes herself available to both the patients and their siblings, who often get overlooked. "You have to really make sure to visit the siblings too, because all the other ones are getting the attention, maybe the attention that he might not want, but they're sitting there kind of like, 'Let's see if they'll say hi to me,'" she says. "You never know what they're thinking. It's important to say hi to the brothers and sisters. I think of that every time I go in there."
For the fifth straight year, Taste of Country is joining Townsquare Media radio stations to help raise money for St. Jude. This two-day webathon coincides with the individual radiothons happening nationwide on Feb. 1-2. This year will feature more powerful stories and more compelling reasons why you should choose to help a children's hospital at the leading edge of saving lives of kids battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
