Jamey Johnson’s Homecoming Show and Golf Tournament Raises Thousands for Cancer Patients
Jamey Johnson could call his annual golf tournament a "hole-in-one" after raising nearly $400,000 for cancer patients with the help of country music pals Randy Houser, Jerrod Niemann, Kellie Pickler, and Ray Scott; actor Dennis Quaid; and pro golfers John Daly and Boo Weekley.
The seventh annual Jamey Johnson Golf tournament took place Sept. 30 at the Cottonwood Golf Club in Johnson's hometown of Montgomery, Ala., and in addition to a round of golf, the event also featured a live auction and a multi-artist concert.
Unfortunately, rain prevented the full concert from taking place, but it didn’t seem to dampen the spirit of giving. Attendees gave $382,000 for the Nikki Mitchell Foundation, which provides financial assistance to pancreatic cancer patients.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the Nikki Mitchell Foundation for putting on a wonderful tournament again this year,” says Johnson. “I am very proud of our sponsors, as well as everybody who made donations and bought auction items.
“I am especially proud and grateful of my hometown for showing up at the concert in droves the way they did in the rain," he adds. "It was heartwarming and very impressive. I love Montgomery and I love Alabama.”
In addition to the money raised for Nikki Mitchell Foundation, an additional $5,000 in money and toys were donated to the Montgomery-area Marine Toys for Tots.
The ACM and CMA award-winning and Grammy-nominated singer is already looking forward to next year’s full day of fun. “We will definitely be back to do number eight in 2019,” Jamey says. “A lot of special guests this year have vowed to return if at all possible and do the concert again next year, including Dennis Quaid, Ron White, Drivin’ N Cryin’, and other guests. The thing I love the most about the tournament is you never know who is going to be there.”
