On Thursday, Darius Rucker's song "Possibilities" touched hearts. Now, a singer from southwest Arkansas is doing the same with a song inspired by his experiences at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Jason Springer performed his song "For the Children" during the St. Jude radiothon at KKYR-FM in Texarkana, Ark. He tells deejay Mario Garcia how his work with the hospital and experiences with patients like a boy named Walker shaped the simple country song. For a short time, he struggled with the title before coming up with "For the Children."

“Because it’s not really for anybody else but for them and the parents out there that’s got to stand beside these young children,” Springer — the lead singer of the Dusty Rose Band — says.

From there it's three chords and the truth about a young boy's experiences battling cancer. “I’m an 8-year-old with no hair / I see you laughing in the hall but I don’t care,” Spring begins with before, “The strength that I got comes from within / God sends me his love again and again.

On March 5 and 6, Taste of Country partnered with KKYR and 15 other Townsquare Media-owned radio stations to raise money and awareness for St. Jude, a world-renowned research hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Every year 67,000 patients are treated by St. Jude. Your donations make up the bulk of the $2 million daily operating costs.
