Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood Recreate ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ on ‘American Idol’
Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood were the first superstar duet pairing during the final episode of American Idol. The country stars recreated Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks' "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" during the farewell season finale on Thursday night (April 7).
Urban was first on stage, but Underwood — his duet partner on the new Ripcord album — opened the song. Urban riffed on guitar before the two came together at the front of the stage and playfully traded lyrics before closing with big smiles and a rousing applause from the sold out crowd.
Underwood was country music's first Idol winner, taking the title during Season 4 in 2005. Urban has been a judge for the final few season of American Idol. The two will come together again on a song called "The Fighter" from Urban's upcoming studio album.
The pair were part of a jolt of country music during the first hour of the two-hour season and series finale. Within minutes the remaining country contestants hit the stage for an all-star medley of country hits. Rockers, crooners and pop stars from the previous 14 seasons were there too, giving fans a reminder of the many stars the show has produced.
La'Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon are the final two contestants during Season 15, with one being named the final winner before the show closes. For the most part, the contest was an afterthought on this night. The class reunion feel of the Fox show dominated until the final moments.
