Between filming her upcoming made-for-TV movie, 'To the Mat' -- which is set to air on the CMT network later this year -- and keeping up with a hectic touring schedule, Laura Bell Bundy has also been making the time to work on a handful of new songs in the studio for her next album.

"I'm back in the studio, writing and recording between gigs this summer," Bundy reveals to Taste of Country. "I'm very excited about the new record. I think this is probably my favorite part, just sort of figuring out what the next record is going to be."

Bundy admits that she had to step away from the music scene in order to grasp the creative direction she wanted to pursue with the new record. "I think if you write all the time, you stop having things to write about," she explains. "You've got to live a little. So I've been living a little, and now I'm writing again [laughs]!"

No word yet when we can expect new music from Bundy, but look for 'To the Mat,' which also stars Ricky Schroder, to air on CMT later this year.
