Lauren Alaina Debuts New Holiday Single ‘My Grown Up Christmas List’ [Listen]
At 19 years old, Lauren Alaina may be too old to believe in Santa, but that doesn't stop her from making a Christmas list -- in the form of her new holiday single, 'My Grown Up Christmas List.'
The 'American Idol' songstress lent her crystal clear voice to the classic, which has been recorded by many singers before her -- Natalie Cole, Barbra Steisand and Kelly Clarkson are just a few who have cut the song. But the country cutie has put her own Alaina spin on the tune, telling USA Today, "I wanted to country it up a little."
"I've been singing it since I was little, at karaoke and stuff around Christmas," she adds, recollecting.
The track, produced by Nathan Chapman, will be released on iTunes Tuesday (Dec. 10), in conjunction with the 26th anniversary of the Special Olympics' 'A Very Special Christmas' music series, with proceeds from the single benefiting the organization.
"The song's about wanting equality and a world full of peace," Alaina says. "It fits what I'm doing around Special Olympics perfectly." All of the songstress' fans know that the Special Olympics are near and dear to her heart -- she's also a Special Olympics Ambassador for Project UNIFY, and has been volunteering for the organization since the young age of 11.
While she's super busy with getting ready for her sophomore album and moving to her new home in Nashville, Alaina will still be spending Christmas with her family -- that's non-negotiable. "I always take Christmas off, because that's a very important time for my family. We go all out at Christmastime, so I've got to be there, or they'll disown me," she admits.
Not only will Alaina be making her family very happy by spending time with them this Christmas, but she will also touch lots of lives with her inspirational new single and her deep commitment to the Special Olympics.
