Lauren Alaina Wants to Be a ‘Confident, Fearless’ Woman on Country Radio
Growing up in the '90s, Lauren Alaina not only recognized strong women on the radio, she identified with them. Inspired by the icons she was introduced to as a child — Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Britney Spears — Alaina's latest single, "Ladies in the 90s" is a lyrical homage to fearless voices who paved the way for her to become one of country newest powerful female voices.
"I grew up in a time when ladies dominated on the radio. I grew up listening to Dolly, Reba, Shania, Martina, Faith, Trisha, and so many more amazing, inspiring women on country radio," Alaina explains. "I sang their songs from the backseat and dreamed up my dream. I believed I could do it because they were doing it."
Alaina channeled other women's confidence into her own music, and has found her own along the way. She's encouraged fans to follow their own paths on songs like "Road Less Traveled," been vulnerable about the important life moments she's missed out on with "Three" and supported the belief that beauty is on the inside with "Pretty."
With the conversation about women in country music more prevalent than ever, Alaina feels it's more important than ever to get her voice to the mic.
"I am lucky and blessed to have been given an opportunity to share my stories and my message. I want to make sure I’m saying the right things to the girls who need to hear it," she says. "I want young girls with dreams out there to feel like they can. I want to represent the ladies on country radio as a proud, confident and fearless woman."
"I believe women have something to say, and they deserve to be heard," she adds.
Expect new music to be more of the same in the best way. The powerhouse singer reveals she’s in the writing process for a new album, and though she's still navigating how she'll put it together, she knows she'll incorporate the authenticity from her celebrated debut album Road Less Traveled into her new material.
"I plan to share my truth. The good, the bad, and the ugly just like I did on the last record," she says.
Alaina will continue to work on new music as she travels the country with Blake Shelton in on his Friends and Heroes Tour next year. They'll be hitting 17 cities in February and March.
