Lauren Alaina's stepfather, Sam Ramker, who was battling Stage 4 cancer, has died, according to the singer. Alaina shared on social media that he had passed at 1AM Sunday morning (Oct. 21).

Alaina wrote a moving account of Ramker's last moments. "His last few hours were some of the most amazing moments I know I will ever have the privilege of witnessing," the singer describes. "He opened his eyes last night. They shined the brightest I’ve ever seen anyone’s eyes shine, and he said, 'Jesus.' We said, 'What do you see Sam?' He said, 'It’s so beautiful.'”

Alaina went on to note that Ramker told them he was seeing many people, including his own mother, and that he'd "found it...Heaven." He passed away an hour later.

"I want this story to be an example of how real God is," Alaina says of the incredible experience. "We are only here for a short amount of time, and we have to live like there is no tomorrow. I want us to all be a little more like Sam. He was strong. He was the most compassionate person in the world. He would go without to help a stranger. He was a great dad. Now he is with the best Father in the universe."

Ramker was married to Alaina's mother, Kristy. Alaina first announced in June that her stepfather was in the midst of battling Stage 4 cancer. The family kept fans abreast of his condition via a GoFundMe page, with the most recent entry from late September noting he was weak from treatments.

The singer had canceled two shows in Texas on Friday (Oct. 19) and Saturday (Oct. 20), citing a family emergency. She was also absent from the 2018 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony in Nashville on Wednesday night (Oct. 17).
