Loretta Lynn Is Not Dying, About to Take Tabloids to ‘Fist City’ [Watch]
Loretta Lynn turned to social media to let fans know that she's not on her deathbed, contrary to reports — and she's fighting mad at the tabloids who have once again spread false reports about her.
The 87-year-old country legend posted the video above to Instagram on Friday (June 14), showing her scanning an article that's been printed online.
"Hey! This says I'm in a nursing home and I'm on my deathbed," the clearly-not-on-her-deathbed singer says in the clip before humorously adding, "You're kidding me!"
"I ain't dead, and neither is Willie," Lynn states with a mischievous grin, in reference to Willie Nelson having read false reports of his death online. Nelson even wrote a song about the experience titled "Still Not Dead."
"Both of us are coming back to life, and we're gonna raise hell," Lynn adds, smiling.
How Loretta Lynn Turned a Banned Song Into a Career Song:
"Well, through the years they've said I'm broke, homeless, cheating, drinking, gone crazy, terminally ill, and even dead! Poor things can't ever get it right," Lynn writes to accompany her video. "I guess if those old pesky tabloids are harassing me then they're giving someone else a break......but I'm about an inch from taking 'em to Fist City!"
Lynn did not clarify which tabloid she was reading, but Radar Online recently reported that she was "living her last days in a nursing home" after a stroke. The report has been picked up and published elsewhere.
Lynn has faced a variety of health challenges over the past several years. She suffered a stroke in May of 2017, and broke her hip in January of 2018. She was forced to delay her latest album, Wouldn't It Be Great, due to her health, but finally released it in September of 2018. The country icon was feeling well enough to take the stage at her 87th birthday concert in Apil, singing "Coal Miner's Daughter" with an all-star group of guests.
"Fist City" gave Lynn her second No. 1 hit when it was released as a single in 1968. In the song, she admonishes a woman to stay away from her husband, saying, "I'm here to tell you gal to lay off my man / If you don't wanna go to fist city."
Note to tabloids: You've just been warned about a coming epic beatdown from a woman who's proven time and time again that she can deliver. Our money's on Loretta Lynn.
