Maddie & Tae's black-and-white and acoustic "Die From a Broken Heart" video puts the duo's vocals — and the pain of their words — in the spotlight.

The song tells the story of a mother-daughter relationship and a particularly excruciating breakup. Of course, mothers have the right answer for any ailment.

"How does he sleep at night? / Momma, the nerve of this guy / To leave me so easy / Am I gonna be alright? / I wanna kick myself for falling so hard / Momma, can you die from a broken heart?" they sing in the chorus.

"We kind of pulled from the pain of the unknown and not feeling the most confident at that time to make it feel real," the duo's Maddie Marlow tells Rolling Stone Country. "We wanted listeners to feel the pain of a mom having to hear that her kid is struggling and the pain of the girl getting her heart broken."

"Die From a Broken Heart" will be featured on Maddie & Tae's upcoming sophomore album, which has yet to be titled or given an official release date. The project will mark their first release on their new record label home, Universal Music Nashville, and will follow up their debut album, 2015's Start Here.

The duo will be hitting the road this spring supporting Carrie Underwood on her Cry Pretty 360 Tour alongside Runaway June. The all-female run kicks off May 1 in North Carolina. "Die From a Broken Heart" has already broken into Spotify's Viral 50 chart in both the United States and Canada.
