Maddie Marlow, who's one half of country duo Maddie & Tae, shared the happy news on Friday (June 1) that she's engaged to her "dream guy." The lucky fellow is her longtime boyfriend, Jonah Font, whom she's been dating for seven years.

Marlow, 22, who calls Font, 23, "her best friend," showed off a beautiful ring and an even more beautiful smile in a post on Instagram revealing the engagement (flip through the shots to get a good look at her pretty diamond solitaire).

The pair met in high school, and have apparently been practicing their team skills ever since. "I love that we’ve been together for so long before we got engaged because we know everything about each other," Marlow tells People. "We’ve learned how to really love each other, how to communicate and how to be a rock for the other person."

Bandmate Taylor Dye approves heartily of the match. "Knowing my best friend is marrying the love of her life makes me so unbelievably happy,” she related to People. “I can’t wait for them to start this special journey together!”

Marlow also shared with the outlet a funny story about the proposal. Font was scheming to pop the question in a romantic fashion during a planned trip to Mexico to celebrate seven years of dating. Marlow had no idea this was in the works—but she had a strange dream three days before leaving that he proposed to her on the beach, and lost the ring.

Font, who was freaked out by this when she told him (can you blame him?), decided to play it safe and propose before the two left town. So he got down on one knee, not on a Mexican beach, but in their own bedroom.

It turned out just right. "I always told him I wanted a really intimate proposal — nothing over the top — so it was perfect!”

Marlow's ring is extra special as the center stone is an heirloom—it's the stone from her mom's original engagement ring. Her parents have been married 25 years, and Mom has a new ring now, so Marlow is thrilled to wear a piece of their history.

Marlow and Dye are currently working on getting out their sophomore album, which is led by the first single, “Friends Don’t."
