Mason Ramsey Sings Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Adele and Beyoncé Hits [Watch]
Eleven-year-old Mason Ramsey doesn't have too many naysayers doubting his yodeling abilities—and now, he's got the world listening to his debut EP, Famous, which features the best of his vocal talents. Still, if there are any out there who believe he's merely a viral flavor of the moment, Ramsey can now prove he has the ability to sing in various genres.
Billboard recently invited the young vocal phenom to their studios to try his pipes out on a variety of hits from various decades, as part of their 60th celebration of the benchmark Hot 100 Songs chart. How did he do? As can be watched above, Ramsey seems to have his stronger suits in terms of style, but he can certainly handle a variety of musical selections.
Ramsey admittedly starts off a bit on the weak side tackling a couple of '60s numbers (the Monkees' "I'm a Believer" and the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There). Surprisingly, he's also a bit lackluster in country territory, delivering a somewhat unemotional single line of Dolly Parton's '80s hit "9 to 5."
However, even more surprisingly, Ramsey hits full stride when he belts out none other than the late Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You."
Okay, so that song was written by Parton, and was originally a country song—but Ramsey then further proves his flexibility by ably warbling pop queen Adele's "Rolling in the Deep."
"I've got a girly voice," he observes, by way of explanation. He also amusingly applied that girly quality to the chorus of Beyoncé's "Single Ladies."
Ramsey wrapped up the amusing exercise by giving fans a snippet of his own debut single, "Famous," which of course he executed perfectly.
Ramsey's rapid rise to fame started when a video of him yodeling in the aisles of his local Walmart earlier this year went viral. In just a few short months, he's appeared at Radio Disney Music Awards, CMT Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Southern California's Coachella and Stagecoach Festivals, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and many other cool places.
