Pistol Annies Try Irish Folk Music in ‘Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies’ With the Chieftains
The Pistol Annies' collaboration with the Chieftains is now available to fans of the country trio and Irish folk music. Ashley Monroe, Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley sing lead over Paddy Maloney and Co.'s traditional instrumentation. 'Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies' will be on the new 'Voice of Ages' album when it's out on Feb. 21.
USA Today posted the exclusive first listen of the song. Other artists on the 50th anniversary album include the Civil Wars, Bon Iver and the Decemberists. T Bone Burnett helped Maloney produce the album. Burnett is best known for his work on the 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' and 'Crazy Heart' soundtracks.
While the harp and Irish reed instruments are not often found on modern American country albums like the ladies' 'Hell on Heels' project from 2011, the trio treats this song as their own. Each takes a verse before they team up to harmonize for the chorus.
This isn't the only cross-genre collaboration they've been a part of in recent months. In December, John Fogerty joined the Pistol Annies onstage in Los Angeles to sing 'Bad Moon Risin'.'
