Sam Hunt, ‘Leave the Night On’ [Listen]
'Leave the Night On' -- Sam Hunt's first single on MCA Nashville -- brings a new sound to country radio.
The track, like Hunt's voice, is richly layered, showcasing range and bringing fans a more pure, country-pop sound than songs like the R&B-infused 'Speakers,' or Hunt's first single, 'Raised on It,' released prior to signing with MCA. Here, the mandolin is on full display and the themes are classic country: late-night cruising, small-town leaving and girls in Levi's. Hunt sings:
"Girl, you got the beat right, killin' in your Levi's / High on your lovin's got me buzzin' like a streetlight...We'll be rolling down the windows, I bet you we're catchin' our second wind / We don't have to go home, we can leave the night on / We can leave the night on."
Lyrically 'Leave the Night On' is thematically similar to some of the most popular country songs but that doesn't mean Hunt has stopped pushing the boundaries of traditional country music just yet.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of Hunt's talent, what distinguishes him from other new artists, is his polished, hip-hop inspired cadence. His lyrics are deftly written and when he lays them out they flow like Coca-Cola. Hunt's sharp-as-nails delivery makes each word decipherable; fans may marvel at an artist who can pull from so many genres to craft a sound that is fresh and remarkably innovative while staying true to the country themes they know and love.
Why Fans Will Love It: 'Leave the Night On' is witty, sharp and tons of fun. This is the perfect anthem for cruising with the windows rolled down, arms outstretched and the promise of the night set out before you.
Key Lyrics: "We'll find a road with no name, lay back in the slow lane / The sky is dropping Jupiter all around us like some old train / We'll be rolling down the windows, I bet you we're catchin' our second wind / Babe we ain't gotta go home, we can leave the night on."
Did You Know? Sam Hunt may be a newcomer, but he's already written more than a few hit songs. He co-wrote Kenny Chesney's 2012 hit, 'Come Over,' Billy Currington's 2013 song, 'We Are Tonight,' and Keith Urban's latest single, 'Cop Car.'
