The People's Choice Country Awards will air Sept. 26 from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. This year's show will be hosted by country music icon Shania Twain, and though she's a longstanding staple in the industry, she admits she's a little nervous.

Ahead of Thursday's big show, we had a chance to sit down with Twain to pick her brain about what it's like to host this one-of-a-kind event: Is there anything that scares her?

Shania Twain on Hosting 2024 People's Choice Country Awards

"Listen, I plan on going to have a lot of fun," the "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" hitmaker dishes to Taste of Country Nights' Evan Paul. She's used to performing during awards shows, but not really hosting.

"My responsibility is to host hard-working artists, to take my hat off to their talents and to join the fans in celebrating the music they love the most," Twain adds. "I'm there as a fan."

Of course, she's not just there as a fan — she has a big responsibility on her shoulders to keep the show moving along on pace, and in an entertaining way. That's where her stage fright comes in, and for good reason.

"I'm not the greatest reader," Twain insists. "I'm a very spontaneous speaker and thinker, so if I get rambling, they might have to take the hook out and get me off the stage."

"I think it's gonna be more about adrenaline than nerves," she continues, "you know, just feeling excited, building up to meeting artists that I haven't met yet."

Some of the up-and-coming country artists who'll be in attendance at the 2024 PCCAs would probably never believe that Twain — one of music's biggest stars ever — is just as nervous to meet them as they are to run into her.

"I will say that the night's gonna go by too quickly for me, that excitement might get me either speaking too quickly or too long," Twain says, considering how things might go Thursday night.

"I think I'll be more like a giddy child. I think that's it, I don't want to ramble on, you know?"

So, if you notice Twain squinting at the camera, just know that she's trying to keep up with the teleprompter as best she can.

The 2024 People's Choice Country Awards, hosted by Twain, will air Sept. 26 on NBC and Peacock (streaming) starting at 8PM ET. The show will feature performances from Keith UrbanLady A, Parker McCollum and more.

Kane Brown will be awarded with a special prize, the Country Champion Award, as will Miranda Lambert, who's being recognized as this year's Country Icon. See a full list of this year's nominees here.

Top 25 Shania Twain Songs — Her Biggest Hits and Best Deep Cuts

Shania Twain's best songs changed country music in ways never imagined before 1995. The superstar's career as a charting recording artist lasted less than a decade and included few accolades (including just one CMA Award) relative to her commercial success, but few female artists under 40 will fail to name her as one of three major reasons they chase this country music dream for a living. Perhaps only Dolly Parton is listed more frequently as an influence.
