Thomas Rhett Feels Willa Will Be a Great Big Sister (Whether She Knows It or Not)
Thomas Rhett's adopted daughter, Willa Gray, is only 19 months old, so she may not fully understand the fact that she is gong to be a big sister come August. But Rhett feels that once the baby comes, she’ll be all over it.
“I don’t think she fully knows what it means that Lauren’s pregnant, or that she’s gonna have a sister," the singer told Taste of Country at Country Jam 2017, "but I think once our new child is born, I think Willa is gonna really be her rock and her big sister."
Rhett and Lauren welcomed Willa home in May, after nearly a year of walking through the adoption process, which they said was a very difficult experience.
“I don’t think anyone can fully prepare you for the journey of adopting someone, especially from a third-world country where there are so many different laws,” Rhett explains. “Every day you wake up with a whole new set of challenges that you never even heard of.”
After many lengthy visits to Uganda, especially for Lauren, and many ups and downs, the trio are finally in the same place at the same time, which Lauren says “felt like a dream."
"I’ve dreamed of us all being on the same continent for so long. It finally feels like everyone is where they’re supposed to be,” she adds.
Rhett is currently on the road on his Home Team Tour with Kelsea Ballerini, Russell Dickerson and Ryan Hurd, but when he’s not playing live, he’s writing new songs about his kids. “The last 20 or so song titles I’ve put in my phone have been about my daughter," he admits. I feel like the whole next record is going to be a pretty mushy one about my kids."
