Tim McGraw Recalls How He Won Faith Hill’s Heart
There's an old saying that goes, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach," but in the case of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, it turns out that works both ways.
The adorable superstar couple appeared on the Bobby Bones radio show on Wednesday morning (Oct. 5) to talk about their upcoming tour, and the conversation turned to how McGraw first asked Hill out on a date.
The couple met at the New Faces show at the Country Radio Seminar, which they were both playing. They were both dating other people at the time, and McGraw's girlfriend told him afterward that she wasn't sure he should speak to Hill again.
The spark between them "was immediate," McGraw recalls, but it took a while for him to actually ask her out. Hill says he showed up unannounced at her house one day with a bowl of chicken and dumplings.
"He had the bowl covered in aluminum foil, and he had a spoon and a fork on top of the bowl," Hill relates. "He said, 'I didn't know if you like to eat your dumpling with a spoon or a fork.'"
"I was like, 'Bam!'" Hill admits.
The couple celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on Thursday (Oct. 6), and while it seems clear that McGraw has something in mind to mark the occasion, he remained mum on the subject, saying, "We have big plans ... couch and pajamas."
"I’ve made a request, but I don’t know if I’m gonna get away with it or not — I want cornbread and peas," McGraw further tells People.
Hill agreed that idea seemed "perfect," but when Bones suggested that was a trap, McGraw ruefully nodded in agreement, despite his wife's repeated reassurances that it wasn't.
"Twenty anniversaries, I know you've got to do something," the "Indian Outlaw" hitmaker acknowledges. He stopped one of Bones' cohorts from chiming in about what someone traditionally gives for a 20th anniversary, saying, "You'll give away ...," to which Hill comically responds, "It's crystal! Duh, as if I don't already know."
The upcoming joint tour is Hill's first time on the road in a decade, though she and McGraw have performed in Las Vegas since then. Her last full-length studio album of new material was Fireflies in 2005, but she when asked straight-out if she intends to release new music, she responded, "Yes. I really hope so, yes. It's going there."
The couple's 2017 Soul2Soul World Tour kicks off April 7 in New Orleans, and will take in 65 dates before it wraps in Brooklyn on Oct. 27.
