'Go Rest High on That Mountain' may not have officially cracked the Top 10 on the country singles chart, but the eulogic ballad, penned solely by Vince Gill, is arguably the respected singer-songwriter's signature track. The song earned Gill a pair of Grammy Awards in 1996, including Best Country Song, and also helped the prolific songwriter win the CMA Song of the Year trophy the same year.

Initially written in response to the passing of country legend Keith Whitley in 1989, our No. 13 entry on the Top 100 Country Songs was later completed after the passing of Gill's older brother in 1993. Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless provided background vocals on the beautiful tune.
