Walker Hayes Completely Freaks Out at His New Times Square Billboard [Watch]
Walker Hayes lost it when he first saw a new billboard in Times Square for his new single, "90's Country" — and cameras were there to catch his priceless reaction!
Hayes released "90's Country" on Thursday morning (Aug. 30), and later that same morning he was on hand in New York City to perform the new single on Good Morning America. In the video above, which was posted to Hayes' Facebook page, Hayes is on the street in Times Square, and he pauses to greet a fan with a hug, not looking up to notice an enormous billboard of himself on the building right across the street.
That is, until a voice from off-camera says, "Hey Walk, who's that?" Evidently, the person taking the video pointed up to the billboard, as Hayes then turns around and casts his eyes upward. He is literally taken aback when he realizes it's his face and new single on the huge ad; the "You Broke Up With Me" singer takes several steps back and gasps, raising his hand to his mouth before blurting, "Oh, sh-t!"
These '90s Singers Need to Make a Comeback!
The stunned singer than raises both arms toward the billboard and exclaims, "What?!" Turning to the woman he had greeted previously, he points up to the billboard and excitedly shouts, "That's me!"
"90's Country" finds Hayes making lyrical references to 22 country classics from the '90s, including George Strait's "Check Yes or No," Deana Carter's "Strawberry Wine," Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and the Dixie Chicks' "Cowboy, Take Me Away." He pairs the nostalgic lyrics with a pop-friendly melody and a very progressive track for a modern, fresh feel.
Hayes teamed with Shane McAnally and LYRX to co-write "90's Country," and he and McAnally also co-produced the track with David Garcia. "90's Country" is available for streaming and download across all major digital music platforms.
