Willie Nelson Tells Jimmy Fallon He’s ‘Chief Tester’ at His Weed Company
Throughout his career, Willie Nelson has been called a trailblazer and a legend and an activist. But this is the first time we have heard him referred to as CTO: Chief Testing Officer.
"Chief Tester," a smiling Nelson told Jimmy Fallon Wednesday (June 19) about his important role within his cannabis company, Willie’s Reserve. "I haven’t run across any I didn’t like."
Even Fallon praised the product, saying he received it as a gift and it changed his life. "I was floating for weeks," the host remarks.
This Is Why You Don't Play Poker With Willie Nelson
All joking aside, Nelson used his time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to share how marijuana literally saved his life.
“I used to smoke two or three packs of cigarettes a day and drink whatever there was there to drink,” the legend recalls. “I had pneumonia four or five times, my lung collapsed. I almost died. So I said, wait a minute, I ain’t getting that high off them Chesterfields. So I threw out the cigarettes, rolled up 20 joints, stuck it in there and I haven’t smoked a cigarette since.”
That got the crowd applauding, and the appreciation continued following Nelson's performance of Guy Clark’s “My Favorite Picture of You.” Nelson's cover will be featured on a new album, Ride Me Back Home, which is set for release this Friday (June 21).
“That song is just kind of infectious,” Nelson tells Fallon. “You hear it and you wanna hear it again. At least I do.”
