Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta to Mentor on ‘American Idol’
Scott Borchetta may not be a household name, but he's a huge part of the music business. He's credited with discovering Taylor Swift, as well as founding Big Machine Label Group, and now he's taking his expertise to 'American Idol.'
According to Us Weekly, Borchetta will mentor contestants on the upcoming season of 'Idol.' The President and CEO of BMLG will take the place of Randy Jackson and Jimmy Iovine.
Borchetta discovered Swift back when she was just 14 years old. She was the very first artist signed to Big Machine, and she's still the label's most famous artist. BMLG is also home to Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, the Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert and Thomas Rhett. With a lineup like that, it's clear Borchetta has an eye for talent.
'Idol' started both Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson's careers, after each artist won the top spot on the show. The source who spoke to Us Weekly said that one of Borchetta's main talents is discovering the next big thing, and that big thing could be the next 'Idol' winner.
The 14th season of 'Idol' returns to TV on Jan. 7, and he'll join Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban, all three who are judges on the show. Jackson won't be returning to the reality competition after 13 years. With Borchetta helping the show to find its next big star, they may discover the next Tay Tay!
