Billy Currington may be a traveling nomad, but the singer is making his dreams come true while leading a touring musician's lifestyle. He's opening for his idol, and he he recently sat down to chat with Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex about what that's like.

Currington, like many country artists, looks up to Tim McGraw as a mentor. McGraw has paved the way for the sound we hear on country music today, and now Currington is living out his biggest dream: getting to open for the star on a massive tour.

“We start with him I think in June on the Shotgun Rider tour, and that’s something I’m really looking forward to," Currington tells Alex. "I always wanted to tour with Tim.”

“I’ve been looking forward to working with Tim for such a long time," he furthers. "He’s such an inspiration to me, and the music he’s put out and the way he conducts his life and his live shows ... I got to play with him one time last year and so I got to see a little bit of what’s going to happen on this tour, and it’s gonna be nice. It’s gonna be crazy.”

Currington's "taste" of touring with McGraw mainly meant his initiation with diehard McGraw lovers.

"I mean, he sells places out left and right everywhere he goes, and that’s something I get to open up for and be a part of the same fans and, hopefully you know, make some new fans," the "Don't It" singer says, "the ones that have been following him for so long and have never heard our music."

Like McGraw, Currington will also head up north this summer to be a part of the Taste of Country Music Festival in upstate New York. Of course, he's looking forward to playing there, too.

In his words: “It’s beautiful there in June, and I’m always a big fan of playing there."

Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 60 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
