Billy Currington has always been known as one who wears a smile often and is comfortable entertaining a crowd. Well, it was no different Tuesday afternoon (May 31) at Nashville's BMI headquarters, where he gathered with friends, family and his peers to celebrate his recent chart-topping hit, 'Let Me Down Easy.'

Looking tan and well rested, Currington, along with the songwriters responsible for the tune -- Jennifer Hanson, Mark Nessler and Marty Dodson -- were awarded with plaques and trophies honoring the song's success.

While it's his seventh time topping the country singles chart, Currington is still in awe every time it happens, never taking a single one for granted.

"It's been a crazy year," Currington tells Taste of Country. "I don't remember [where I was when I found out it went No. 1] ... I really don't, but I'm sure I was really excited! I was being told so many times that, 'You might get a No. 2; we don't know why, but that's just the way it's looking.' But I wasn't accepting that [laughs]. I kept thinking about that No. 1, over and over and over, and then it happened, thankfully!"

Currington's latest single, 'Love Done Gone,' from his 'Enjoy Yourself' album is currently at radio. Look for a video for the new song in the coming weeks. Currington is currently on the road with Kenny Chesney on his Goin' Coastal Tour. Click here for a complete list of dates where the tour will be stopping.
