‘Blue Whiskey’ is the Mashup You Didn’t Know You Needed [Watch]
Young artist Ali Taylor heard Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and Chris Stapleton’s version of “Tennessee Whiskey” and saw an opportunity. The college student / country artist decided to put the two hits together for a mashup that will make listeners wonder why they haven’t heard “Blue Whiskey” before.
Taylor’s creation is a bluesy acoustic rendering, beginning with a verse and chorus of Urban’s tune. She then switches gears to “Tennessee Whiskey,” and brings it back home with alternating lines from each ballad. The artist’s voice shines in the song — clear, strong and effortless as it glides over the melodies — and the farm life/Americana-inspired video is the perfect setting for singing the blues.
A Pennsylvania native, Taylor has been honing her craft since high school, playing shows and cultivating her skills as a songwriter. She now lives in Nashville, continuing to grow as an artist and build her fan base. “Blue Ain’t Your Color” recently became a No. 1 hit for Urban and was nominated for a Grammy. “Tennessee Whiskey” is one of Stapleton’s most-loved tunes, a cover of an old George Jones song. It hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts and no. 20 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
