Brandi Carlile Sings ‘Delta Dawn’ While Being Fitted for Ear Molds, and It’s Still Perfect [Watch]
Brandi Carlile's got a killer voice that's pitch-perfect even in unusual circumstances. The singer-songwriter showed off her vocal chops on Instagram by covering Tanya Tucker's "Delta Dawn" while getting ear molds made — and, yeah, she still sounds amazing.
"Getting ear molds made at the ear doc today! ... They asked me to sing my favorite country song nice and loud," Carlile writes in the caption of a video of herself singing Tucker's 1972 breakout hit. She's donning a hat with Tucker's name on it, and tagged Tucker and the Highwomen, her own new supergroup featuring Maren Morris and Amanda Shires.
"Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on? / Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?" Carlile sings, her voice loud and clear, ringing out in the doctor's office. "And did I hear you say he was a-meeting you here today? / To take you to his mansion in the sky?"
Carlile is a co-producer on Tucker's upcoming album, along with Shooter Jennings. The project is titled While I'm Living and will be accompanied by a documentary, Delta Dawn Then and Now: The Return of Tanya Tucker. Carlile is also executive-producing that project, Variety reports.
"She’s the most fascinating person in country music right now, and no one knows it," Carlile says of Tucker. "The world’s going to be like, how did we forget about Tanya Tucker?”
