CMA Awards Celebrates Storied History With 10-DVD Release
Those who tune in to the CMA Awards year after year can relive the magic of the live show with the upcoming release of CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015.
The Country Music Association has teamed up with Time Life to create a 10 DVD collection that showcases 127 performances and some of the best moments of the awards ceremony's elaborate history, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016. Just some of the legendary moments captured on the discs include Merle Haggard's 1970 performance of his classic hit, “Okie From Muskogee,” Dolly Parton opening up the 1983 show with Kenny Rogers on their famous duet "Islands in the Stream," Alan Jackson and George Strait's tribute to George Jones in 2013 with "He Stopped Loving Her Today," and many more. Other featured performances come from the likes of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Glen Campbell and Buck Owens.
In addition to iconic musical numbers, there is an array of other special moments from over the years, featuring Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift, just to name a few. A series of bonus interviews with Charley Pride, Naomi Judd, CMA executives Sarah Trahern and the late Jo Walker Meador are also on the DVD.
"In addition to the presentation of the yearly accolades to the biggest stars in the country format, the yearly telecast is famous for historic performances and collaborations – many of which are the first time legendary songs were featured on television," Time Life and CMA say in a press release.
Pre-orders are now available for CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015. The 2017 CMA Awards air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday (Nov. 8) with Paisley and Underwood returning to the stage as hosts for the 10th year in a row.
