‘The Voice’ Hopeful Cody Wickline Nails George Jones Cover, a Spot on Team Blake
Cody Wickline knows how it's done. The country hopeful got chairs turning during the Blind Auditions of The Voice on Monday night (Feb. 23) with a rendition of a George Jones classic.
In fact, the judges were instantly impressed!
Wickline, looking like a vintage replica of Blake Shelton, brought his guitar and black cowboy hat to perform on the show, and it worked for him. The singer played the heartbreakingly beautiful "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and it only took a couple of seconds of his deep voice to convince Adam Levine to turn his chair. Shelton was a little tougher to please, waiting a while before hitting his button, but he was quickly joined by Pharrell and then Christina Aguilera. All four coaches wanted Wickline for their own, and they showed him with a standing ovation.
"What the hell are you even talkin' to these people for, man?" Shelton asked the singer, who could only laugh. Aguilera said she was "captivated" and that Wickline has "true talent beyond inflections." Pharrell, on the other hand, told him to go with his gut and pick the coach that felt like the best fit for him.
"I knew it right away, man!" Levine told him, trying to get the country singer on Team Adam. "I turned around in two seconds! I knew it man. I knew it! My passion should speak for itself."
After a dramatic pause — and a difficult decision — Wickline went with his gut and picked Team Blake to lead him through his time on the show. The Voice airs weekly on NBC.
