Deana Carter shot to overnight stardom with this plaintive song about lost innocence, which helped propel her debut album 'Did I Shave My Legs for This?' to multi-platinum status. 'Strawberry Wine' saw No. 1 on the country charts in November of 1996, and earned the CMA Award for Song of the Year in 1997. It came in at No. 42 on Taste of Country's list of the Top 100 Country Songs, and now lands on our Top 100 Country Love Songs countdown as well.

Musically, the mid-tempo track provides an effective setting for Carter's wistful vocal, which perfectly suits the lyric: "Strawberry wine, 17 / The hot July moon saw everything / My first taste of love, so bittersweet and green on the vine / Like strawberry wine."
