Kacey Musgraves just made things Instagram official.

On Thursday (Aug. 14), the “Happy & Sad” singer hard launched her new relationship on social media — sealing the post with a heart emoji.

It’s been a year of big changes for Musgraves. Back in May, she became the first artist to sign with the newly relaunched Lost Highway Records, the Nashville label that helped launch her career more than a decade ago.

Naturally, fans had questions: Who’s the mystery love? Is Musgraves officially off the market?

Meet Nava

In the sweet post, Musgraves revealed that her “new relationship” is actually with Nava, a cream-colored horse she first met in Oregon last summer.

“I met this girl in Oregon last summer and fell in love but it didn’t work out at the time,” Musgraves wrote on Instagram.

The "Follow Your Arrow" singer continues, “She is the horse that reconnected me with my love of riding again and in a bout of sweet serendipity, she popped back into my life a whole year later.”

Nava “just made the trek to Tennessee to her forever home,” Musgraves adds. “Her name is Nava. (Or maybe I should name her Fate.)”

Musgraves’ Dating History

While her current relationship status with humans remains unclear, Musgraves’ past romances have inspired some of her most celebrated songs.

Her most high-profile relationship was with country singer Ruston Kelly. The pair first met at Nashville’s famed Bluebird Café in 2016 — a chance meeting that inspired her hit “Butterflies.”

They got engaged that Christmas Eve and married in Tennessee in October 2017. Musgraves and Kelly split in 2020, calling their decision “painful” but mutual.

In 2021, she was briefly linked to Nashville doctor Gerald Onuhoa before starting a more public romance with poet and writer Cole Schafer.

From Love Songs to Horseback Rides

Musgraves released her album Deeper Well in March 2024, earning critical acclaim for its introspective songwriting and lush production.

In May, she became the first artist to sign with the newly relaunched Lost Highway Records — the same Nashville label that took a chance on her in 2011, before Same Trailer Different Park put her on the map.

“Lost Highway believed in me when others didn’t,” she said at the time. “Coming back now just feels right.”

As her catalog proves, Musgraves has no shortage of inspiration when it comes to matters of the heart — whether that heart belongs to a person or, in this case, a very lucky horse.
