Newly-minted country star Kelsea Ballerini took her latest infectious tune “XO” to the Late Night with Seth Meyers stage on Jan. 13, giving a high-energy, rock-infused performance of the track from her debut album The First Time.

Ballerini stepped up to the mic with an electric guitar slung over her shoulder wearing an edgy all-black ensemble as the intro swelled. She started off the song with a fast-talking, sassy run directed at a boy who just can’t seem to get over his ex. The trio behind her kicked in with distorted guitars and crashing symbols, launching the opening track from her album.

The song takes a bit of a harsher edge than her previous singles, “Love Me Like You Mean It” and “Dibs,” but it’s still got the signature catchy melody Ballerini has become known for. The artist displayed all her charisma and charm during the performance, smiling throughout the song and rocking out on her guitar — even grabbing a drumstick and adding some extra oomph with some additional symbol crashes in the bridge.

Though she’s still a young artist, Ballerini has proven over and over her ability to keep up with the big dogs, performing with confidence and poise, not to mention her technical abilities as a musician and songwriter. Ballerini’s 2015 was a big one — achieving her first No. 1 with her debut single, getting named Taste of Country's Artist of the Year, being nominated for CMA and AMA awards, performing on stage with Taylor Swift — but 2016 is sure to bring even more success for the young lady.

Ballerini is slated to join Billy Currington on some of his Summer Forever Tour dates, which begin as early as February.
