Michael Ray Asks for Fans’ Support Before Father’s Open-Heart Surgery
Michael Ray is asking for prayers. The country singer's dad, Jerry, was scheduled to go into open-heart surgery on Thursday morning (Dec. 28), and Ray asked for fans love and support ahead of time.
"Dad Since Day 1 you have had my 6 and I'll always have yours ... please send good vibes and prayers to my pops has he goes into open heart surgery this morning. Love you all!" Ray writes with an Instagram photo of him and his father, both sharply dressed with Ray dressed in a blue tuxedo jacket and his dad in a classic black suit jacket and red tie.
Ray's father's surgery comes days after the country singer was arrested on Dec. 20 in his native Eustis, Fla., for driving while under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana. Police said that Ray crashed his 2012 Jeep into the vehicle in front of him while waiting in the drive-thru line at McDonald's at 4AM, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Ray was released from custody on the same day as his arrest on a $6,000 bond.
"I want to apologize to my fans, family, and my hometown community for placing myself in this situation. I am so very sorry for the disappointment these events have caused everyone. I know it will take time; however, I will do everything I can to rebuild your trust," Ray said in a statement issued the next day.
Ray topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2015 with his breakthrough single, "Kiss You in the Morning" and scored his second No. 1 single on country radio with "Think a Little Less" in 2017. He's of Country Radio Seminar's New Faces for 2018.
