Parker McKay Is Not Giving Up on Love in New Song ‘This Far’ [Exclusive Premiere]
Parker McKay is determined to see love through a rocky patch in her new song, "This Far." She's giving fans an early listen to the track in a Taste of Country exclusive.
"This Far" is a pop-country jam whose lyrics we can all relate to. McKay sings of a relationship that is going through some challenges, beseeching her lover not to walk away just because things get tough.
"Oh, why are you holding back / What are you looking for that you don't already have / We didn't come this far to come this far / What are you waiting for / Oh, you're lying to yourself / If you're thinking you're ever gonna want something else / We didn't come this far to come this far / What are you waiting for," she sings in the chorus.
"'This Far' came from wanting to write a nuanced song that shows the strength in vulnerability when fighting for someone who you think is worth the fight," McKay tells us. "It’s about asking for what you want and practically approaching the complexities of relationships. Too often, women in country are expected to sing about a relationship happening to them, but this is about the woman happening to the relationship. 'This Far' is about the part where the hard work comes in and when you come to the table to lay everything out."
Mckay is a native of the Northeast, but the singer-songwriter is now bringing a fresh approach to Nashville's country scene with her eclectic influences, which range from Haim to John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Shania Twain and even Eminem.
McKay has opened for artists including Rascal Flatts, the Band Perry, Crow and Martina McBride. Her debut music video premiered exclusively with Rolling Stone, and she was recently added to CMT’s Artist Discovery Program. "This Far" is set for release on Friday (March 15).
