Sam Hunt Eases Through ‘Body Like a Back Road’ at 2017 Billboard Music Awards
Sam Hunt brought a sense of calm to the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 21) with a performance of his most recent No. 1 hit, "Body Like a Back Road."
The recently-married singer started his performance from behind an acoustic guitar with "Nashville" on the body, but soon stood up to work the crowd and cameras — in fact, he spent a good portion of the show looking directly into the camera. At times he struggled with his in-ear monitors before finally taking them out during the final chorus.
Hunt wore a low-key black T-shirt and cargo pants for his Billboard Awards performance — quite a contrast to the tux he showed up to the red carpet in. Crowd shots included fans and other artists, but not his wife Hannah Lee Fowler. She did walk the red carpet with him, however.
"Body Like a Back Road" is the lead single from Hunt's hugely anticipated sophomore album, which is expected in 2017. It has been the most-streamed country song of 2017, breaking the Single Week Country Song Streaming record with over 11.8 million weekly streams. It's also one of Taste of Country's Hottest Songs of Summer 2017:
Hunt co-wrote “Body Like a Back Road” with Zach Crowell, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne just after he got engaged to Hannah Lee Fowler, and he embarrassed his bride-to-be at the ACM Awards on April 2 when he ran out the audience to perform the song to her on camera. The couple married on April 15 in a hometown ceremony in Georgia.
Hunt will kick off his 15 in a 30 Tour on June 1 in Cleveland. Maren Morris, Chris Janson and Ryan Follese will join the superstar on the road for the tour, which will visit more than 30 cities before it wraps in September in Nashville.
