Sam Hunt Makes Chart History With ‘Make You Miss Me’
Sam Hunt has made history. The singer just became the first solo male artist to top Billboard's Country Airplay chart four times with singles from a debut album since the chart's January 1990 launch.
Hunt's latest single "Make You Miss Me" has reaching No. 1, following the success of previous chart toppers "Take Your Time" "Leave the Night On" and "House Party." All four songs are off his 2014 debut album, Montevallo.
The fifth single from the album, "Make You Miss Me" was co-written by Hunt, Josh Osborne and Old Dominion's Matthew Ramsey. It follows his previous single, "Break Up in a Small Town," which went to No. 2 on the chart.
"'Make You Miss Me' is an important song to me," Hunt tells Billboard. "Having it go No. 1 as the fifth single off of my first record is the cherry on top of a chapter in my life I'll never forget."
Hunt is reportedly working on his follow-up to Montevallo and has previously admitted he's had a difficult time juggling writing and touring.
“It’s hard for me to balance those two worlds,” he says. “I’m just collecting as many ideas as I can, whether they’re mine or someone else’s and just getting ready to go back and hole up in Nashville this fall and find out what works best for the future of our music.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone Country, Hunt explains that Snoop Dogg has already pitched him songs for his next project.
“He came on the bus and played me a few songs,” the country singer says. “I was just flattered that he was interested enough to offer those opportunities and contribute. I love that, stereotypes aside, he loves music and genres don’t matter."
